This isn't a Manifold question, but is germain to using PostGRES with Manifold.

I'm trying to install PostGRES in our University lab. I have Administrator rights to the machine, but when I run through the installation process, at the end I get an error that says:

"This application has failed to start because WSOCK32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".

I have installed PostGRES on about 4 other machines and connected it to Manifold. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Art, I haven't had any problems with installing PostGRES. I've installed on both 32bit and 64bit machines. The only thing I can think of is to do a search for wsock32.dll on your server (should be in windows/system32 - that's where it is on my system). If it's not there, place a copy of it in the system32 directory, and you "should" be good to go.

thanks Rich. That didn't work. I have a sneaking suspicion that our lab must have certain "protections" related to ports, and other access that are preventing the installation. My guess is that this is an oddity because as a University lab, many constraints are placed on the computers - even for people in the Administrator group.

Did you run regsvr when you copied it over?

Art, your probably on the right track, the servers are no doubt locked down pretty tightly. You might try adding wsock32.dll to the search paths, or run regsvr like LAGBolt suggested, if you still can't get it to install, it's probably related to security settings ...... darn IT people !
