problem with attachment links

Hi, there's some problems with the attachment links that are created - it seems that the ftp link will open inline in the browser - this is ok for text, but no good for .map files - we get a garbled text rendering of the .map file!

I've attached an example that exhibits this behaviour, at least for me.

Usually I use right-click, "Save Target As" download the file directly - but is there any way to make the one touch left-click work in the same way?

Also there doesn't seem to be any response from the http link? Do others have the same problems? I'm using IE7.

This came in an email from Wondermark (http://wondermark.com/) which has some great stuff. The quote is a caption to a cartoon that first appeared in 1870 and refers to the post Civil War financial crisis.

Upon first read, I interpreted this comic in the light of our current financial situation. “Hmm, things really are cyclical,” I thought. “Businesses in danger of failing come to the government for bailout.” It seemed like the cartoonist was scoffing at the businessmen with their outstretched hands, and advocating a method to get them to go away: just don’t give them what they beg for. “Hah!” thought I. “The analog to today is: No bailout! However, on second read and further examination of the context, I don’t think that’s what the cartoonist was saying at all. Punchinello had a lot to say in 1870 about what its editorial board saw as oppressive taxation — another cartoon, not reprinted here, depicted a host of tariffs, excise fees, dock taxes etc. as barnacles preventing merchant ships from leaving port and earning money. In the above cartoon, the figure on the right is George S. Boutwell, Secretary of the Treasury, seen earlier in the Inquisition; on the left is Hamilton Fish, Grant’s Secretary of State. They’re here portrayed as two of the villains from Oliver Twist, Mr Bumble and Mrs Corney, ready to ride honest American merchants like orphans in a workhouse. A far sight less subtle than my initial interpretation, perhaps.

The most interesting thing to me, however, is to compare the cartoons’ doom-and-gloom to the actual historical record. President Grant and his Cabinet presided over a country rebuilding from the Civil War; they would face a severe economic crisis down the road in 1873, which would lead to a six-year depression, but by 1870 Grant was lowering taxes, Boutwell was streamlining the federal government, and despite a scandal implicating Grant in a scheme by speculators to corner the gold market in 1869 (which would, in fact, be the cause of the 1873 crisis), American credit abroad was better than ever and the national debt was being paid off at a rapid rate.

don't know if it could be usefull but search post about visual studio and C# and there is not a lot .try to code outside manifold without use manifold api (ll arise soon) . But the tool of microsoft seem limited refer to attach to process discussion and the IIS server is only accessible inside Visual studio but not inside xp home version. ironpython ll supported only in pro version . there is cassini that support depend of version 1.x or 2.x .NET but no good informatin about VS and cassini when wanted to have feedback about stable environnement for dev - ( no trick, no hack ). In a way script section is rather about SQL, form,and script ( ui or not ) using manifold editor. create IMS , console application ,web application , library have to use a real IDE ( VS support all this output) . know most of people don't make care to section and people that have the knowledge to code in such IDE ( sharpdevelop / VS) are more programmer than gis people or specialized in programming. think at this time there is less than 13 post about this subject when test in ssearch engine this query """using Manifold.Interop C# site:manifold.net""".

Hi,we are using Manifold 7x and Oracle 8i..we have no problem in connecting to our server before since the machines is in the same area..The problem started when the server was transfered to other area and use different subnet..when we tried to connect we failed..we need the port to be able to connect to server..what port do we need to enable us to connect to the server? Changes since previous update:

There is a user profile option to toggle the display of avatars in posts between all avatars (including animated ones), static avatars and no avatars at all. Uploading an animated avatar automatically generates the corresponding static avatar.
There is a new Announcements forum area reserved for major news related to Manifold System. The area can only be written to by Manifold staff.
There is a new Stats page which displays the number of threads and posts on a per-month basis. Statistic figures are updated every 12 hours.

because like to know who's who's and search IMS manifold example ( all very slow at this time) : browse web link of some manifold user forum and find that many links ( all) are invalid because seem manifold url forum is place before the url we put inside the form.

The Age selection in search is not working properly for me.

For a post I did today I tried to search the General Forum for the post I wanted.

I knew it contained "ANSI" and was fairly recent.

The thread I wanted started in July and the latest post was in August.

I searched for "ANSI" in the last 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 6 months

The thread didn't show up. No threads at all showed up.

When I changed the age to 1 year or all then the threads would show up.

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.16

I've made a data entry form that has to get displayed everytime something new (point, area or line) is added to the map just like the window that opens up when Instant Data feature is turned on. I want to ask a few things:

1. Can I handle the NewObjectInserted or something like that event?

2. If that is not possible, click event can be handled on an already existing object in OnClick script. How can I call the data entry form in that event and how can I pass the Clicked Object's ID to that form so that the corresponding fields can be updated in that form?

Label styles created from image files

Hi,

I need to make a road map with road signs. Road signs can be located on the left and right sides of the road. In any scale road sign must be located not far from the road and not close it.

For the presentation of road signs I used point styles created from image files. In this case, image is centered on the coordinates of point. This is not very convenient. Ideally suited for the task labels with images.

In Manifold documentation I have not found how to do it.

Can Manifold use label styles created from image files?

Or maybe other ideas?

Calculate distance between two data points

Hi:

This might be a silly question, but what is the best way to calculate the distance between two data points at the mediterranean sea when I start from data points that are in latitude and longitude. What I did was I change the projection from lat-long to mercaptor zone 34, get the UTM coordinates and the calculate the distance between those points in meters, but i'm not sure if that is fine.

I attach some sample points.

IMS Problems

I've just started using Manifold's IMS. I encountered with lots of annoying things and so many problems.

1- If I've once published a map as ASP.NET webpage on a location http://localhost/map/default.aspx, it runs fine but if I republish the map with different settings lets say I only change size, it publishes smoothly but still shows same older size (the very first one).

2- If I try to publish another map file say map2 to a location where I already have published a map file say map1, it again publishes smoothly but shows the same old map1 on the page.

3- While all this was going on an idea from hell struck into my mind to restart my computer ... after reboot I tried to load the published web page and it gave me error saying: "Unspecified error (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004005 (E_FAIL))". Now if I make any other folder with any name in my Inetpub/wwwroot folder and publish a map over there, it gives me same error!!!

Any idea whts going wrong?

does people share my point of view

1-when read a thread of many post , if search tool is in bottom we don't have to search where is the firefow tab than contain list of link since search tool ll appear in the same html page. the name of the tab could change to help us !! this already occur where you are on a post the tab take the name of the post . but no name when html page forum is a list of link after search engine was launch !!

2-because we could remove text to the input form of name "post author" and "post text" think Clear could disseppear ? remove text by hand and run apply is the same thing than clear

3-even people say don't use name forum ( script-forum-annoucements) is not usefull . if i think forum name "general" is usefull for beginner or if not the first page could only contain a search engine, annoucement , a way to post new question, and last post . like this people use the forum only if they know what they want to search . i like how is the forum nowodays , it like a news paper we can read learn something new even don't use this information . this month (juillet 2008) it seem there is a lot of questions about ui scripting. but questions on forum create new questions around previous questions !!!

i have an old java reference book ( class function extends implement abstract ...information) . when read this book ( strange original hobby but it is like this .....) . find wonderfull to have in the end of the book an index of all the function and wich object use it . does it make sense to have this in manifold ? . the html documentation index help us to find infomation about xml and programming reference to know the name of type object but no way to know if xml motif /string is use inside the name of a function to know with object use it . with xml seem microsoft force user to use linq even people know more on standart xml api : xslt stylesheet , fop ,dom , sax .....!!!! don't test linq so i have no opinion about linq but it is a "shame" to see "xaml" when test the power ( XPointer, XLink and XPath.) of http://www.fourthought.com/4Suite

javadoc is wondefull and microsoft use xml now for documentation so best ll arise soon !!!!

see strange when wanted to write a thread than

1) the select html tag offer only to write in the forum we actually read ( so if we read script forum we could not write in forum of name forum directly) . so think seelct must show all the forum name than a user could access

2) think in edit mode like many php forum a new page have to be use to not see all the link to post . we must use the mouse wheel to go to the bottom each time !!!

Display Options for a Surface

Hi,

I'm new to Manifold. I've gone through most of the documentation. I'm having some issues with symbolizing a surface.

1. Is it possible to add or subtract classes? It seems I have to choose a pre-made color palette, and each one comes with a defined number of classes. Surely this isn't the only option.

2. Are there different ways of classifying surfaces (linear, bicubic, etc?)

3. The "interpolate" feature will ramp custom colors first to last, but I can't seem to add any key colors in the middle. Is there a way to do this?

strange behaviour

don't find this in the aim of find something . but seem when we post in the forum and i use the previous arrow button inside firefox than we can't change the page . the page that can be rendering is in edit (w) or read ( default mode without string/value to url).

don't know if the page i edit was the first or the end of many page view inthe same tab but

1 if it was the first page open in a new tab , there is no reason to swith to this 2 mode

2 if en of many load html in tab ,we could expect to go to past/future /history of html page

3 don't see other alternative .

Could this be confirm after edit page .

According to this thread: http://forum.manifold.net/forum/t56598 I arguably violated forum etiquette by referring to emilio.aguinaldo's ignorance (oops! did it again!) and will accept whatever punishment the webmaster and/or my peers deem appropriate.

However, we may need some better etiquette rules so that emilio (and others I suppose) cannot freely abuse the community with their obtuse, simple minded and self-contradictory tomfoolery.

In the old forum I was able to ~~bam~~ ban users and IP's. There are certainly server logs that will let the powers-that-be deal with him appropriately. I suspect he posts under three names here.

i try to edit a post and i could not understand what appear near upload previous file name using firefox (5)

So i try IE ( 6 because my xp OS don't succeed to install next ie version !!) and see it was a checkbox for delete .

here is the capture screen ( ie version, mozilla version and checkbox rendering using ie and mozilla)

don't go in deep ( html tag javascript ?) because of time session ..........

ll be very happy all browser respect html javascript standart ? be happy to see google engine inside opera for mobile and phone version like .net for nokia or java for .net and symbian OS . if all OS run in a virtual machine , the problem is not write once run anywhere but write it structured , maintain ,speed easely with less cost ........( eclipse and all free google API make me scare ....)

Currently, most new posts go to the General area. While some of these posts belong to the Scripting area (and will end up there once we have forum organizers - stay tuned), most of them don't. Would it make sense to add a new forum area to split the traffic more evenly?

is there a simple way to convert all points to one line from each gps device easely ?

Who can told me how many concurent users can handle IMS?

Licenct - is that for one site, or licence per concurent users?

I have request to handle 500-600 concurent users, and i am not sure if is possible.

i go to the manifld doc in this link ( or other ) and don't work in my firefox version 1.5 and 2 . All work in ie 6.0.2900.5515 xpx ...( xp sp3) . Don't know if this occur because install two version of firefox ( the older let me install some xml tool than the last don't support ) or if it because i install xp sp3 . The last possibilities is that my xp os is instable ( don't reinstall new from crash since all XP activation key are already use : never read microsoft define a limit number of activation key !! .....)

Changes since previous update:

There is a profile option to render post counts in avatars as stars + number, stars, number, or not render them at all.
There is a profile option to render posts with or without hierarchy, oldest to newest or vice versa.
It is possible to post new threads from the All Posts area.
URLs without schemas starting or ending with common prefixes (www.) or postfixes (.com, .net, etc) are assumed to be HTTP.
