Trying the flashy demo.

Get as far as File/Link/drawing and select Aus_Earthquakes.xls

I get the following error:

"The application has failed to start because msaccess.exe was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

Does manifold require Access to link to Excel spreadsheets?

No.

Manifold links XLS files and files of several other types via Microsoft Jet, which I think is the origin of the error. This looks like a configuration issue. Make sure you have the latest MDAC and Jet as well as all critical updates from Windows Update.

I migrated to 7.0 on a newer, faster PC, still have 6.5 on the old one till the 7.0 issue is resolved. Tried the same on the old box (6.5), worked like a charm. Will check install of Jet and MDAC.

You should not have 6.50 running on an older box if you have traded in that 6.50 serial number for a 7.00 serial number. If manifold detects that a traded-in serial number is running, both that number and the new 7.00 serial number issued for it will be revoked.

Sorry mate,

I misunderstood the 30 day license thing, I wanted to make sure 7.0 worked before killing 6.5. To that end I have not yet obtained an activation key for 7.0. (deleting 6.5 install as we speak..) Still no luck with the fault.

OK,

File/import/drawing gives me the same error, with the .xls file on the local drive, as does File/import/table.

(in both cases I'm selecting file.xls as the file.)

Just tried the same thing in MapInfo (the company approved GIS) and it worked. You can see why perhaps I'm playing with the flashy demo....

This is a configuration problem.

Did you install all the latest updates from Windows Update? Have you ever been running any beta software on the machine? If so, can it be that some of that software still lurks around?

You could try importing data in the XLS file via ODBC (File - Import - Table, ODBC Data Sources(), create new file data source using Microsoft Excel Driver, then select the XLS).
